A New Year and a New You

It’s the time for resolutions. Resolutions made, resolutions broken, resolutions struggling to be kept, Americans have made it a tradition to create “New Year’s Resolutions”, a way to change themselves, some aspect of their personality, physical appearance, behavior or habits. We’ve done it for as long as I’ve been alive and it will likely continue long after I’m gone. New years, that counting of the calendar, brings a renewal to people’s efforts to improve. I’ve toyed with making a resolution this year, but I don’t want to make a promise to myself that I will not keep, and I’m not entirely certain I’m willing to put in the effort to complete the resolution I’m considering. I know it’s a little late to resolve to complete this task, as we are now two weeks into the year, but I don’t have to follow your rules.

R&R has made a New Year’s resolution as well. We have promised to make ourselves better than we were last year. We have resolved to improve more than we did last year. As a company made of people, we are fallible like people are, we make mistakes and have ideas that turn out to be wrong. Oddly enough, this is the same resolution we make every year in our annual management recap meetings. Where did we go wrong and how can we do better? It’s a critical self-analysis that’s important to do on a personal as well as professional level, and to our valued customers, we are doing just that.

We are striving to improve our quality, and I mean that as broadly as I can, whether that’s the people we employ, the products we sell, and down to how quickly we get things to your door. We are doing everything we can to drive down our costs, constantly reviewing our manufacturer contracts to eek out the best deals, so we have room to pass the savings on to you, our customers. We are exploring new product lines and business segments, working on ways to better align ourselves to your needs and provide you with a truly single source for all your business needs. Many of these things happen in the background, in what we hope is a seamless transition so it doesn’t affect your relationship with us or your ability to find what you need from our catalog of over 50,000 items. With all these moving pieces, we are bound to get some things wrong and make some mistakes, but we are always willing to face these challenges head on, without fear and to make these mistakes with purpose, to learn and improve from them.

We have our New Year’s Resolutions. Do you?
