So it’s been a while since my last post. A day over a month, to be exact. Now the reasons behind that vary, but suffice to say, this year I’ll be back with what I expect to be three entries a week. Let’s accomplish something I probably should have done with my very first entry for this blog and introduce myself, as well as the nature of the blog and the content you can expect to find within it.

My name is Justin, I am 34 years old, have two (practically) teen children(?), a wife of over 14 years and I’ve been with R&R for over 10 of those. In my time at R&R, I have literally done every single job. I’ve driven (poorly) when we were short handed on our delivery staff, I’ve sold (poorly) product to customers out in the field, I’ve collected money from customers with unpaid invoices, I’ve played a customer service role on the phone when the need arose, and now currently sit on the management team as the company’s CFO. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s in business administration, not that that means much anymore.

The purpose of this blog is really singular in nature, but I’m going to take a multi-faceted approach to accomplish it. The company needs the blog to create a stronger online presence and factor higher on natural SEO searches. I hope to generate content that interests people and gives a little bit of insight into our company, share the very tiny bit of wisdom I have gleaned in my time on this planet and within this company, as well as share my personal opinions on a few (hopefully) non-inflammatory topics. R&R has given me a lot of latitude when writing this blog, providing no suggested topics or plugs. They don’t require any minimum word counts or number of products pushed. They just ask that I make frequent, regular posts in hopes to reach the attention of a very internet savvy generation of consumers. I apologize in advance if anything contained within these posts offends anyone, and I will strive to provide engaging and easily consumed content, while keeping true to the values I strive (and even sometimes achieve) to accomplish: Honesty, (writer) integrity and transparency.

Let me take a moment to explain the above. The first is honesty, and is fairly self explanatory but I’m going to spell it out anyways. I will never present a statement of fact as a fact unless it is one. If I make a statement without research, I will use subtext (like this) or context to point out that it’s an opinion. If I make a statement of “fact”, I will post the location of my sources so that I might be independently verified by you internet sleuths. Please feel free to correct me on any content I post that is proven wrong, I will make any necessary adjustments and credit you for the correction. Integrity, especially as a writer, is very important to me. I have a strong sense of right and wrong. Taking credit for someone else’s work and passing it off as your own (not just plagiarism here, but overall) is wrong. I am paid as part of my regular duties to write this blog, and as such it would be imprudent of me to bite the proverbial hand that feeds me, but at the same time I will not allow the content I create to be nothing but puff pieces and shameless plugs or self-aggrandizement. I’m not saying I will not promote the company, but I am saying I will do so when I feel the promotion we run, whatever it may be, will be of value to our customers and my readers. The final item, transparency, is listed because I will divulge any personal interest myself or the company has in whatever content is posted within this blog. If we are sponsored to create content from a manufacturer about a new item, I will share that information. If I am asked to write about a specific topic by the company, I will share that information as well. I take my writing assignments very seriously, but I am not in the business of misleading consumers of my content in any capacity. Call it the former aspiring journalist in me, it just feels dirty.
